By the growth of the effect (pursuit of objects, goals)
बीज प्रवृद्धिःbīja pravṛddhiḥ
the increase of the seeds
परि–दृश्यतेpari–dṛśyate
is seen everywhere
कार्य–नाशाद्kārya–nāśād
with the cessation of such effect
बीज–नाशःbīja–nāśaḥ
the destruction of the seed
तस्मात्tasmāt
hence
कार्यम्kāryam
effect (pursuit)
निरोधयेत्nirodhayet
should be stopped
Translation
It is seen that, as the effect grows the seeds also increase. The seed ceases to exist if the effect ceases. Hence one has to stop promoting the effect.
Annotation
kāryam – means the effect such as a sprout in the case of the seed, bījam. As the sprout grows into a huge tree, it gives innumerable seeds. Seeds would not multiply if the sprout is not allowed to grow. Hence when the desire sprouts, it should not be allowed to grow because it will rise to emergence of many more seeds (Jagadguru).
