Translation

A firm conviction that the words of the scripture and of the teacher are true is called śraddhā (faith and earnestness) by the wise. The objective (Brahman) is attained by such faith.

Annotation

The word śraddhā is not mere faith devoid of reason. It is an earnest reliance on the teacher’s word, as the teacher is a realised person who has followed the word of the scripture.
