Shloka ब्रह्मैवेदं विश्वमित्येव वाणी श्रौती ब्रूतेऽथर्वनिष्ठा वरिष्ठा । तस्मात्सर्वं ब्रह्ममात्रं हि विश्वं नाधिष्ठानाद्भिन्नतारोपितस्य ॥ २३३ ॥
brahmaivedaṃ viśvamityeva vāṇī śrautī brūte’tharvaniṣṭhā variṣṭhā ; tasmātsarvaṃ brahmamātraṃ hi viśvaṃ nādhiṣṭhānādbhinnatāropitasya . 233 .
Anvaya वरिष्ठा variṣṭhā The respected श्रौती वाणी śrautī vāṇī the Vedic word अथर्व–निष्ठा atharva–niṣṭhā relating to Atharva Veda ब्रूते brūte tells (that) इदं विश्वम् idaṃ viśvam this universe ब्रह्म–एव brahma–eva is Brahman alone इति–एव iti–eva thus तस्माद् tasmād therefore एतद् etad all this विश्वं viśvaṃ universe ब्रह्म–मात्रं brahma–mātraṃ is Brahman alone हि hi because अधिष्ठानाद्–भिन्नता adhiṣṭhānād–bhinnatā distinctness from the substratum आरोपितस्य न āropitasya na does not exist for the superimposed Translation The venerable Vedic word relating to Atharva Veda tells that this universe is Brahman alone. Hence all this is Brahman because, for the superimposed, there is no distinctness from the substratum.
Annotation The Vedic line referred to is from the Mundaka Upanishad (2–2–2) which belongs to Atharva Veda.
