Shloka

देहोऽयमन्नभवनोऽन्नमयस्तु कोशो
ह्यन्नेन जीवति विनश्यति तद्विहीनः ।
त्वक्चर्ममांसरुधिरास्थिपुरीषराशि -
र्नायं स्वयं भवितुमर्हति नित्यशुद्धः ॥ १५६ ॥

deho’yamannabhavano’nnamayastu kośo
hyannena jīvati vinaśyati tadvihīnaḥ ;
tvakcarmamāṃsarudhirāsthipurīṣarāśi -
rnāyaṃ svayaṃ bhavitumarhati nityaśuddhaḥ . 156 .

अयम् देहःayam dehaḥ

अन्न–भवनःanna–bhavanaḥ
has food as its origin
अन्न–मयः तुanna–mayaḥ tu
this alone is made of food

Translation

This body has food as its origin and this itself is the food sheath, because by food it survives and deprived of food it decays. It is a bundle of the two layers of skin, flesh, blood, bones and fecal matter. This by itself cannot qualify to be the eternal and pure Brahman.

Annotation

The particle ‘tu’ is to exclude the other sheaths and qualify the present one as made of food (Jagadguru). It is dependent on food and is impure (Jagadguru).
