अज्ञानमूलोऽयमनात्मबन्धो
नैसर्गिकोऽनादिरनन्त ईरितः ।
जन्माप्ययव्याधिजरादिदुःख -
प्रवाहतापं जनयत्यमुष्य ॥ १४८ ॥

ajñānamūlo’yamanātmabandho
naisargiko’nādirananta īritaḥ ;
janmāpyayavyādhijarādiduḥkha -
pravāhatāpaṃ janayatyamuṣya . 148 .

Translation

This bondage (identification) with the non–self has nescience as its root and naturally befallen. It is said to be originless and endless. It causes misery due to the continuous stream of birth, death, disease, old age etc., to this person.

Annotation

1) anantaḥ – means that it does not disappear without the knowledge of the Self. 2) pravāha–tāpaṃ – has a textual variation as pravāha–pātaṃ, in which case it means ‘falling in the stream of birth, death, etc’ (Jagadguru).
