Shloka

विषयाणामानुकूल्ये सुखी दुःखी विपर्यये ।सुखं दुःखं च तद्धर्मः सदानन्दस्य नात्मनः ॥ १०७ ॥

viṣayāṇāmānukūlye sukhī duḥkhī viparyaye ;sukhaṃ duḥkhaṃ ca taddharmaḥ sadānandasya nātmanaḥ . 107 .

Anvaya

विषयाणाम् आनुकूल्येviṣayāṇām ānukūlye
When sense objects are agreeable
सुखीsukhī
(a person is) happy
विपर्ययेviparyaye
when it is contrary
दुःखीduḥkhī
(a person is) unhappy
सुखं दुःखं चsukhaṃ duḥkhaṃ ca
happiness and misery
तद्–धर्मःtad–dharmaḥ
are its (the mind’s) properties
नna
and not of
आत्मनःātmanaḥ
the Atman
सदानन्दस्यsadānandasya
which is ever blissful

Translation

A person is happy when the sense objects are agreeable and unhappy when they are not so. Happiness and misery are the properties of the mind and not of Atman which is ever blissful.

Annotation

The same sense objects may at times cause happiness and at times misery they may cause happiness to one and misery to another. Atman is not so. Atman is always of the nature of bliss. Happiness and misery are the properties of the mind (Jagadguru).
