Annotation

The verse is an invocation to the Supreme Reality, Brahman and not to any personal god with name and form. It is referring both to his guru and also to Brahman.

The teacher who imparts the knowledge of Self is held on par with the Brahman in the Indian tradition. Govinda Bhagavatpada was the teacher of Sri Shankaracharya. The Brahman, the Supreme Reality is known only through the teachings of Vedanta. The Upanishads, the end portions of Vedas, are known as the Vedanta. The knower of Brahman becomes Brahman (Mundaka Upanishad 3.2.9), the text is going to show. Brahman is also called as Bliss. The realized teacher personifies It.
