Shloka

अहं नैव मन्ता न गन्ता न वक्ता
न कर्ता न भोक्ता न मुक्ताश्रमस्थः ।
यथाहं मनोवृत्तिभेदस्वरूप-
स्तथा सर्ववृत्तिप्रदीपः शिवोऽहम् ॥४॥

ahaṃ naiva mantā na gantā na vaktā
na kartā na bhoktā na muktāśramasthaḥ ;
yathāhaṃ manovṛttibhedasvarūpa-
stathā sarvavṛttipradīpaḥ śivo’ham .4.

English Translation

I am not at all a thinker nor a goer; neither am I a talker nor a doer. I am not an experiencer nor am I in the stage of the free. Just as I enter into the nature of the various mental states, I am equally the illuminator of all states. I am the auspicious (Brahman)

Just as the same person is the son of his parents, the father of his children, the master of his servants, and so on, so does the essentially unrelated Self seem to be a thinker when it manifests itself through the mind. Considered as related to the legs and the tongue, the same to be a goer and a talker. When functioning through the faculties of action, he becomes a doer; when functioning through the faculties of perception, he becomes an experiencer. Nor can we say at any time that he is now freed from these attributes for he was never really bound by them. Though he puts on these attributes, he remains as their illuminator and also as their witness. That unrelated illuminating witness is my Self.
