Shloka

शिष्य उवाच -
मिथ्यात्वेन निषिद्धेषु कोशेष्वेतेषु पञ्चसु ।
सर्वाभावं विना किञ्चिन्न पश्याम्यत्र हे गुरो ।
विज्ञेयं किमु वस्त्वस्ति स्वात्मनात्र विपश्चिता ॥ २१४ ॥

śiṣya uvāca -
mithyātvena niṣiddheṣu kośeṣveteṣu pañcasu ;
sarvābhāvaṃ vinā kiñcinna paśyāmyatra he guro ;
vijñeyaṃ kimu vastvasti svātmanātra vipaścitā . 214 .

Anvaya

एतेषु पञ्चसुeteṣu pañcasu
While these five
कोशेषुkośeṣu
sheaths
मिथ्यात्वेन निषिद्धेषुmithyātvena niṣiddheṣu
have been negated as mithyā
सर्व–अभावं विनाsarva–abhāvaṃ vinā
except total non–existence
अत्र किञ्चित् न पश्यामिatra kiñcit na paśyāmi
I do not see anything here
हे गुरोhe guro
oh teacher!

Anvaya

स्वात्मना विज्ञेयंsvātmanā vijñeyaṃ
(something) to be known as one’s Self
किमु वस्तु अस्तिkimu vastu asti
what exists
अत्रatra
in this matter
विपश्चिताvipaścitā
by the knower of the Self?

Translation

While these five sheaths have been negated as mithyā (having phenomenal existence) I do not see anything here except total non–existence. Revered teacher! What then exists to be known by the knower of the Self?
