अव्यक्तनाम्नी परमेशशक्ति -
रनाद्यविद्या त्रिगुणात्मिका परा ।
कार्यानुमेया सुधियैव माया
यया जगत्सर्वमिदं प्रसूयते ॥ ११० ॥

avyaktanāmnī parameśaśakti -
ranādyavidyā triguṇātmikā parā ;
kāryānumeyā sudhiyaiva māyā
yayā jagatsarvamidaṃ prasūyate . 110 .

Translation

Māyā, known as unmanifest, the one which has no beginning and which is of the nature of nescience is the power the Supreme Brahman. It is characterised by three guṇa–s and it is transcendent. It is inferred from its effects only by the wise. All this universe originates from it.

Annotation

1) Unmanifest – because it is not known to the senses and the mind. 2) parā – transcendent – because even Hiranyagarbha originates from it. 3) to be inferred from the effects (the evolutes) – if this power were not accepted the creatorship for Brahman cannot be explained. Māyā is the cause for the space and other evolutes, as per the scriptures. This statement is also to refute the argument of Sankhyas that the universe evolves from an insentient prakṛti (Jagadguru).
